Energy efficiency provisions in the Waxman-Markey act could create 500,000 jobs

Energy efficiency provisions in the Waxman-Markey legislation currently being considered by the US could, with a few improvements, create over 569,000 jobs and save the average household $283 a year, according to the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE).

A new report from ACEEE indicated that the American Clean Energy Security Act (ACES) has enormous potential to drive energy efficiency improvements – and could deliver even more.

If Senate increased the Energy Efficiency Resource Standard (EERS) from its current 5% energy savings goal for electric utilities to 10%, required a third of electric utility allowances to be used for energy efficiency improvements and extended the 9.5% allocation of carbon allowance revenue to the State Energy and Environmental Development (SEED) fund, ACES could create over a million jobs and save households $832 a year by 2030.
