World’s largest offshore wind farm switched on

DONG Energy's Horns Rev 2 offshore wind farm

Last week Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark officially switched on the Horns Rev 2 offshore wind farm, which will be the world’s largest until Greater Gabbard comes online off the shores of the UK.

The 91 turbines of DONG Energy’s 209 MW wind farm 30 km off the coast of Jutland, Denmark will provide enough power for around 200,000 homes.

The 3.5 billion kroner project, which took 18 months to construct, is just the start, according to DONG.

“Horns Rev 2 is a concrete example of our efforts to increase production of renewables,” says DONG Energy Power CEO Niels Bergh-Hansen.

The company says it is planning to triple its clean energy production capacity by 2020.

BP has 1500 staff in India and says it will continue “to actively explore new opportunities and long-term material growth options for all its Indian businesses”
Meanwhile, BP is continuing its withdrawal from the wind market outside the US with the sale of its three Indian wind farms, which total 100 MW in capacity
