Texas sunny energy future, could become 'the Silicon Valley of solar power'

“Texas has the right stuff to be a world leader in solar power, producing clean energy that will create tens of thousands of jobs and reduce pollution”, said Environment Texas Director Luke Metzger. “But with other states moving aggressively to court the solar industry, we have a narrow opportunity to act. The legislature should invest in making Texas the Silicon Valley of solar power”.

With Texas officially in its second recession in eight years it is a good idea albeit not a new one. Long before the Obama Administration as well as the Europeans found renewable energy to be the best way to battle the recession, Texas had the policies in place. In 1999, the Texas Legislature created one of the nation’s earliest and most successful renewable energy initiatives and has turned the state into the world’s sixth largest wind power producer.
