US real estate agents join forces on energy efficiency

The US Department of Energy (DOE) has brought together 19 real estate agencies to work together to improve the energy efficiency and reduce the greenhouse gas emissions from commercial buildings.

Participants in the Commercial Real Estate Energy Alliance (CREEA) have committed to work to reduce the energy consumption and emissions of commercial buildings, which currently stand at around 18% of the country’s totals.

The initiative gives building owners and operators access to the latest energy efficiency and emission reduction research and technologies from the DOE’s National Laboratories. CREEA also serves as a national forum to share best practices and experiences in energy efficiency.

A similar organisation for retailers, the Retailer Energy Alliance, was set up by the DOE in 2008 and counts companies such as Walmart, Target and Macy’s its members.
